Quotations & fees

Obtaining a quotation

Professional clients may contact the 4BB Chambers clerking team to obtain a quotation for legal services. The clerks can be contacted on 020 7092 1900 or at [email protected].

Pricing models

Fees are agreed through 4BB Chambers. The most commonly used models are a fixed fee for defined advisory or hearing work and, for trials or other multi-day hearings, a brief fee with refresher fees. The applicable pricing model and fee are confirmed for each instruction.

What affects the fee

A quotation may be affected by the seriousness and complexity of the case, the volume of papers and electronic material, the preparation required, urgency, the length of the hearing, the number of hearing days and any unusual evidential or expert issues.

Legal services

Areas of practice and services

Legal services most commonly provided include criminal defence advocacy and advice in serious and complex cases; advice and advocacy concerning evidence, admissibility, disclosure, sentencing and appeals; analysis and presentation of digital evidence; and criminal legal aid remuneration and costs appeals.

Timescales depend on court-imposed deadlines and hearing dates, urgency, availability, the amount and complexity of material supplied, the need for conferences or further evidence, expert material and the stage at which instructions are received. Where a timescale can sensibly be estimated, it will be discussed when the instruction and fee are agreed.

Complaints

4BB Chambers complaints procedure

Complaints concerning Jonathan Turner’s professional service are handled under the published 4BB Chambers Complaints Procedure. 4BB asks that complaints are raised as soon as possible and its published procedure states that Chambers will not deal with complaints outside its twelve-month time limit.

The full 4BB procedure explains how complaints may be made by telephone or in writing, how they are investigated, how confidentiality is handled and how Chambers responds. Chambers can be contacted at 4BB, 44 Southampton Buildings, London, WC2A 1AP, telephone 020 7092 1900.

Independent redress

Legal Ombudsman

If a complaint has not been resolved to your satisfaction, the Legal Ombudsman may be able to consider it. A legal service provider normally has up to eight weeks to respond to a complaint before it can be taken to the Ombudsman. The Ombudsman’s current rules generally require a complaint to be referred within one year of the problem occurring, or within one year of when you became aware of it, and within six months of the service provider’s final response.
